We’ve seen plenty of examples of how rugged SSDs are, so we weren’t too surprised to se this reinforced example lifted to quite a height, ready to be dropped onto the asphalt car park surface. We didn’t even see a dent on the Solo’s casing, though with a digger due to drive over it, we admit to not walking up to take a close-up look.
We didn’t expect to see the rugged exterior casing completely collapse under the treads of the caterpillar track, but it turns out that the armour plated unit is actually a smaller unit embedded deep inside a thick layer of DataCast.
The Solo crunched at is was crushed, and it actually stuck to the track at the digger rolled on. What was left was a fairly small amount of crumpled metal, and lot of white powdery stuff and – buried inside the debris – the armour-plated storage unit.
